Top 10 Modern Horror Movie Icons
We at Stars and Popcorn want to recognize the new kings of horror. So, we put together this list of the Top 10 Modern Horror Film Icons. While Dracula and Frankenstein are plenty scary, we really want to give the new kids on the block a chance to shine. While it might seem a little cliché, we just can’t help ourselves around this time of year. With that, we present the 10 people you don’t want knocking on your door this Halloween.
10. Chucky (Child’s Play series)
Brad Dourif stars as the doll from Hell in this series. While Chucky is a nightmare, the doll he inhabited was already pretty creepy to begin with. The reason this psychotic icon comes in at No. 10 is because he became kind of a joke after the third film in the series. Plus, if he does come after you, you can just put a box with a brick on top of him and you will probably be fine.
Weapon of Choice: kitchen knife.
Estimated Kill Count: 30
9. Ghostface (Scream series)
Wes Craven decided to spoof the horror genre, and this killer was the result. Everyone remembers the year Scream came out, because that Halloween this guy was everywhere. To be honest, Ghostface isn’t really the best at what he does (after all Sidney Campbell is still alive), but we love him anyway.
Weapon of Choice: hunting knife.
Estimated Kill Count: 25.
8. Jigsaw (Saw series)
Is it really fair to call Jigsaw a killer? Yeah, it is. This guy thinks he’s actually helping people to better themselves, and that’s pretty terrifying. Even though he’s never actually killed anyone, he puts you in a situation where you’re going to die, unless you do something horrible to yourself. That’s pretty sick if you ask us, and genius if you ask horror fans. Plus Tobin Bell’s voice is just flat out creepy.
Weapon of Choice: his mind.
Estimated Kill Count: 68.
“Do you want to play a game? I have Scrabble, Connect Four and Monopoly. I’m missing the top hat, though.”
7. Pinhead (Hellraiser series)
This guy is our favorite killer/carpentry accident. It kinda makes you wonder what’s going on in Clive Barker’s head to come up with something as intense as Pinhead and the cenobites. Sure, the Hellraiser series has gone downhill since the first two, but to this day Pinhead remains an icon in the modern horror world. Besides, you probably don’t want to mess with a guy from hell.
Weapon of Choice: chains with hooks.
Estimated Kill Count: 35.
