While filmmakers spend the next two months patting each other on the back for a job well done and a ticket well sold, those of us accustomed to the solemn pitch of the theater and the sweet, sweet odor of artificial butter have already shrugged off the spectacles of yesterday. Eyes always on the next […]

Just watch the original instead. Being that it’s October, I thought it might be fun to sit down and watch a few scary movies to get myself in the spirit of the season. Unfortunately, I decided to start my mini-marathon with the remake of Nightmare on Elm Street, which is just… Well, it’s just awful. […]

Throughout the long history of TV and film, the best (and worst) shows and movies have always had at least one bad guy. While we’re more likely to root for the hero of the piece, the ‘evildoer’ is often the one that keeps us watching. The latest to join the pantheon of great fictional baddies […]

And across the globe, nerds rejoiced.

So this last week was San Diego Comic Con, arguably the biggest comic con in the world. This is the event that, despite its name, has very little to do with comic books and more to do with the movie industry’s adaptations of comics. But Hollywood chooses to test their primetime ‘comic nerd’ material here. We see previews of everything from sci-fi movies to superheroes to great TV, like Game of Thrones and Veronica Mars. And this year, we saw lots of great new projects coming to screens soon, such as Marvel’s Guardians of the Universe, Joss Whedon’s new Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and the upcoming Thor and Captain America sequels.

While nothing official has been discussed, I’m pretty sure it’s safe to say that terrorism is against Stars & Popcorn’s official company policy. That’s why none of the movies you’ve seen reviewed by us have officially been financed through terrorism. True, we did honor those bad guys who deserved props once in the past, but other than that, we are very much anti-terrorism.

With Man of Steel hitting theaters, I’ve been thinking about all the comic book movies that have come before it. Sure, there have been some great ones, like The Avengers, but there have also been some bad ones along the way. So, with Superman getting a new chance to be everything he can be, we […]

All right motorheads (petrol-heads for our readers across the pond), this week we’ve thrown together a list just for you. If there’s one thing we love about our big-screen heroes, it’s the awesome cars they get to drive. Not only are they saving the day and making the world safe, but they get to cruise […]

See, the whole problem with our top 10 list this week is no one wants to use the phrase “Top 10 Terrorists.” In fact, I’m pretty sure it’s against our site charter. Though to be fair, I was pretty hungover when we were going over that whole thing.

Writers, who needs them? They’re nothing but a bunch of nerds sitting in Starbucks with their MacBooks, sipping on skinny chai lattes, waiting for “inspiration to strike.” Yeah, sure, you haven’t had a paying job in weeks, but your new script is really coming along. You finally found the driving thematic element behind your protagonist […]

Dredd 3D

On September 23, 2012 By

Judgment has come… and it’s awesome. Following a summer of highly addictive Dark Knights and Iron Men, audiences could easily view Dredd as a final tepid puff, slowly weaning them off of the comic book hero. Ladies and gentlemen that subscribe to said thought, your judgment is way off.

Five viewings of The Dark Knight Rises and it’s still not enough. So at the risk of being excessive, here’s another freaking article about it. It seems I catch something new every time, some tiny, subtle nuance. For some showings, I went into the theater just hoping to escape from life’s trivialities. Others were analytical undertakings, and boy, do I have stuff to tell you. [...]

The Summer of Movie Summers has effectively concluded. The Avengers was a sensation, effectively crippling the box office and providing the proverbial bar for all future superhero/summer flicks to aspire. Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man was appropriately named. And (choking back tears as I write this) Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy was concluded in remarkable… no, astounding… better yet, phenomenal fashion as The Dark Knight Rises (against seemingly insurmountable odds) exceeded all expectations.
