Marvel ups the stakes, but not the quality, with The Winter Soldier. I’m disappointed in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. After all the hype and rumors that have been swirling around the internet, I was expecting a film that would raise the stakes after The Avengers. Don’t get me wrong: This film offered up a […]

Hollywood tells a lot of stories each year, and let’s face it: There are some great characters out there. However, sometimes the face we all associate with a character has to change, and sometimes a lot more than once. Whether it’s because an actor got too old, wants to branch out into new roles or […]

While filmmakers spend the next two months patting each other on the back for a job well done and a ticket well sold, those of us accustomed to the solemn pitch of the theater and the sweet, sweet odor of artificial butter have already shrugged off the spectacles of yesterday. Eyes always on the next […]

Well, the summer blockbuster season is coming to an end, which means Oscar season is about to get into full swing. We at Stars & Popcorn pride ourselves on knowing that not all great movies are good, and while we’re excited to see Hollywood trot out its show ponies in an attempt to bring home […]

Hollywood has sold out. Not that I have a problem with that, but this is an argument that has no rebuttal. Thought-provoking cinema has been replaced with one-size-fits-all fairy tales. You’ve got the hero, the distressed damsel (no matter how tough she initially seems), and the happy ending. Nothing less, but rarely anything more.

Video games and movies seem to have a hard time mixing. However, as huge nerds, we still hold out hope that Hollywood will get it right, and with Assassins Creed and Splinter Cell on their way to production, the video game movie might just be the next comic book movie (in other words, a big deal).

With Man of Steel hitting theaters, I’ve been thinking about all the comic book movies that have come before it. Sure, there have been some great ones, like The Avengers, but there have also been some bad ones along the way. So, with Superman getting a new chance to be everything he can be, we […]

This match sees two of the greatest superheroes from different universes pitted against each other in a laser-eyed, hammer-swinging fight to the death. The contenders today are Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Superman (Christopher Reeve, Brandon Routh). A god vs. an alien guarantees an interesting battle already. Both are intrinsically part of international culture and have been popping up all over movies the last few years. So let’s do this. Flowing blonde hair vs. the infamous curl. Go!

We’ve talked a lot about comic book movies recently, and while I’d like to say it’s because they’re so relevant to the contemporary cinematic landscape, it’s really because I’m just a big old nerd at heart.

Today, there’s a new Daddy Warbucks in town, Joss Whedon is a total jerk (not really), Two and a Half Men says some stuff we don’t care about, Hollywood makes a comic book movie and Daniel Day-Lewis lands his next role.

I didn’t think Hollywood would be able to top 2012 when it came to comic book movies. Lo and behold, though, I was wrong. With Iron Man 3 kicking off the summer movie season in just over a week, I decided to take a look all the films coming out this year, and I was […]

Each month, Stars & Popcorn will be teaming up with Meg Schutz Photography to bring you its newest feature, the Girl of the Month. This month, we feature the stunning and surprisingly nerdy Heather Edwards as the protagonist of True Blood (and resident vampire bait), Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin). Vampires are a hot comodity right now, so it only seemed right to tip our hat to one of the most popular shows on television. Since Sookie always seemed to be surrounded by vampires, we got help from the beautiful Catriona Forgey to play undead dream boat Eric (Alexander Skarsgård). So sit back and enjoy the photos and the interview as we present Stars & Popcorn’s April Girl of the Month!
