There are a lot of bloggers and editors Writing Importantly about HBO’s terrific mind-bending, decades-spanning crime anthology True Detective, which concludes its first season Sunday night. The finale is one of the most hotly anticipated TV events in recent memory, perhaps topped in fan fervor only by Breaking Bad‘s series finale last September. With the […]

Comic books are a hot commodity right now, and that’s partially why we launched a sister site only focusing on funny books. With the recent announcement that The Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is being picked up by ABC, it got our minds thinking about other comic book TV shows that would be awesome. So, we thought […]

A solid showing. The war rages. Robb Stark (Richard Madden) fights for the Iron Throne, to attain justice, or maybe just to battle boredom, and all the while, Stannis Baratheon (Stephen Dillane) licks his wounds and Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) amps up her armada with soldiers who evidently don’t need their nipples (or their balls, for that matter). And the Lannisters, of course, play the game of whispers in the wind. But was this production the remarkable comeback we all yearned for—anxiously anticipated with fan mugs in hand?

Oh so bittersweet. Let me start off by saying that HBO should own your Sunday night. For all of you whining that television rots your brain-teeth, nobody is listening, so you may as well enjoy it.

Boardwalk at its best. After witnessing what will most likely go down as the most disturbing scene displayed on HBO this year in the previous episode (and that is saying something), “Ging Gang Goolie” Writer Steve Kornacki knew the perfect ingredients to render this week’s showing equally impressive and a tad more comfortable.

Get out your torches and pitchforks, ‘cause religious controversy follows: Episode one of this fifth season was certainly strike one for any True Blood fan. As the proverbial umpire, I’ll pass this follow-up as a ball. The sequel doesn’t hurt Creator Alan Ball, but to say that it dug him out of the ground completely would be an exaggeration.

White people problems. Exclusively. If you’ve followed the entertainment industry at all over the last three months or so, you probably already have an opinion on the much-ballyhooed HBO comedy Girls. I say this only because everybody seems to have an opinion on the much-ballyhooed HBO comedy Girls. My opinion, in short, is that it […]

The night approaches and “winter” has come and gone. With Game of Thrones’ spectacular season still resonating in the minds of HBO’s Sunday night subjects, the network bequeaths the immense responsibility of producing compelling television to True Blood Creator Alan Ball. In this, the writer’s final stint on the show, expectations tower over those of the series’ previous installments, not due to True Blood’s past praise, but because of the pressure applied by other prime-time powerhouses such as George R. R. Martin’s onscreen adaptation and Creator Terence Winter’s Boardwalk Empire.

Lions and wolves and stags, oh my! Oh yeah, and dragons and zombies: “Thank God it’s Friday,” ”Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting,” and Sunday night rocks! Yeah, I said it. You’d think that the threat of school/work creeping around the corner would force anyone to submerge themselves into the misery and anxiety that the accursed first day of the week is associated with, but nevermore. With magnanimous networks like HBO reigning over televisions every Sunday evening, this threat has been subdued and transformed into a joyous occasion. Huzzah, indeed.

The night is dark and full of terrors… and sex… and gore (which I guess can be classified as a terror). Sunday night rocks! Yeah, I said it. You’d think that the threat of school/work right around the corner would force anyone to submerge back into the misery and anxiety that the accursed first day […]

It’s better to burn out than to fade away. No one told Mark Wahlberg: For seven seasons, HBO’s Entourage was one of the finest shows on premium cable, a comedy-drama that was often heartwarming and always witty featuring great story arcs and high stakes to the backdrop of a dreamlike and extravagant Hollywood lifestyle. Unfortunately, much of what made Entourage so great for its first seven years is either absent, diluted or rushed in its final season, and it leaves an unsatisfactory feeling with fans where a sense of closure should be.
