News: Wreck-it Ralph 2 in the Works?

Following Wreck-it Ralph’s record-breaking weekend, as the film’s $49.1 million marked the biggest opening for any Walt Disney Feature Animation picture, director Rich Moore has wasted no time discussing a possible sequel.

In a recent interview with Gamerhub.TV, the aforementioned video game enthusiast expressed interest in venturing beyond the confines of the nostalgic arcade scene for Ralph’s next big adventure, going so far as to cite “online gaming” as a prospect. (Exciting stuff, I know.)

Above all else, Moore emphasized his goal to render the sequel more relevant to the times. As arcades are not quite the Xbox 360s and PlayStation 3s of today, he wishes to delve into modern games and the complexities of their connections. (From the U.S. to Australia would be a hell of a game-jump indeed.)

In any case, I’m not sure how Disney would appeal to the wealth of players who solely enjoy the, errr… mature franchises like Gears of War and Call of Duty. But then again, Street Fighter isn’t exactly hugs and rainbows, and it was in the first movie.
